Chemical engineering is one of the main branches of engineering and it is a necessary profession in almost all processes. The Chemical Engineering Department of Eskişehir Osmangazi University was established in 1968. The department aims at training researcher, investigator, and lifelong learning chemical engineers with analytical thinking ability who are proud of their department and university, and who are considering the human relations, efficiency of production processes and economics. For this purpose the department gives a high qualified graduate and undergraduate education in accordance with the needs of the contemporary and state-of-the-art technologies.
There are three divisions in the department: Unit Operations and Thermodynamics; Process and Reactor Design; and Chemical Technologies. The courses consist of theoretical and laboratory studies in the department. In this context, in the four year undergraduate curriculum of the department, there are basic science, basic engineering, chemistry and chemical engineering courses. Additionally, the students take two social elective courses and three technical elective courses according to their areas of interest. Laboratory courses are very important in chemical engineering education. In this content, there are nine laboratory courses. The students perform laboratory experiments related to the basic principles and significant applications of science, chemistry and chemical engineering. The students also have the possibility of attaining a second diploma by completing a second main branch education or attaining a certificate by completing a side branch education, if they fulfill the required conditions in their chemical engineering education.
The graduates of the department are taking positions such as general director, director, manager, chief, specialist, R&D engineer, quality assuredness official, project engineer, plant engineer, etc. in private, public and official sectors.
